i really really wonder sometimes if i am really a part of you all. maybe some of you thought i don't want to come for parades already. but i'll just like to tell you all, i'm left out of everything. i heard nothing from everyone, since december 2006's holidays started. this has happened before, and it has happened again. what's going on? ruth.

Promotion Parade December 2006

Hey everyone, Congratulations to all those who were promoted. Well done and keep up the good work. For those who didn't get promoted, don't despair. Pick yourself up and work harder. As for those other award receipients, congrats as well. However, the parade was still... hmmm... could be lot better. You guys really should give more than 100% effort. What do I mean by that? You guys need to practise yourselves, either with friends or individually even, your own footdrills and other stuffs that you need to revise, such as first aid. You shouldn't only just put in your best during training. Before and after official SJ activites, you should also train yourself physically and practise your own drills if you need to. I am saying this because many of you cannot even march smartly on your own. Your personal drills should be very solid and very good. Trainings are meant for you all to co-ordinate your timings. Sec 1s, you are going to be sec 2s already. Believe me when I say you all are way behind time in your training syllabus, as your drill knowledge is very limited, and so are your other skills. Even the basics of behaviour of a uniformed group member, there are many who cannot abide by the rules. I do not wish to dampen your spirits, but I feel that I have to highlight the severity of the current situation to you all. I believe you all can do it, and its just a matter of whether you all want to or not. If each and everyone of you push yourself and train yourself, discipline yourself, you all will improve very very very quickly, and even you would be surprised how fast you all can improve. Our doors are always open if you all need help. The only difficulty is for you all to gather your courage and speak to us first (which I know many of you all dare not, since you all keep thinking your sirs and mams will eat you all up...). Anyway, I really hope to see you all come up real soon, and do yourselves proud. This journey that you all walk, is for yourselves, not for us. Do it; For yourselves. Regards, Weiye

5 days 4 nights for trainers, 4 days 3 nights for trainees. Another milestone has passed in many of our lives as we step out of Tanglin Sec sch today. I am sure all of you leave with many memories, some bitter, some sweet. I would like to first congratulate everyone for a job well done. Most of you all did well, some above our expectations even. Good work and keep it up. Don't be arrogant though. Remain humble, we still have a long way to walk. Continue to work on your morale, unity, and dare to challenge yourself. Step forward more to take lead when there is a chance. I hope all of you all learnt alot from the course and will use whatevery you all have learnt back in nan hua. I believe u all should have also seen some negative examples as well too. Keep those in mind and don't become like them too. Good job, those who got best trainers, trainees, department awards. It must have been quite a good feeling for those who got it. Keep in mind however that it is the journey that matters most, not the results. Keep on being positive and remain humble, all of you will make it. Rest well now... you all are tired. After that when u all got ur strength back, work hard again. Gotta push urselves onwards. Hey everyone, please take note of the new CPR Procedure... Click on the image and download the enlarged version. Memorise it by heart. We are first aiders and must know this well. Take note of: 1. new compression: ventilation ratio 2. No. of cycles of (30:2) 3. Length of breath (1 sec) 4. Change in rescue breathing and CPR counting method due to new changes in length of breath and no. of compressions. 5. Rate of compression is slightly faster now. Hey people, the camp is over. Hope you all had fun and also learnt somethings. I am sure at some point in time, all of you would have faced some difficulties one way or another. Some will make you feel like giving up even, whereas others are a breeze to you. Just remember that what does not kill you, only makes you stronger. Never stop trying. You only fail when you stop trying. I hope that all of you would work even harder to improve yourselves in your discipline, and behaviour. We have long lost the tradition where all SJAB members would shout and make noise everywhere we go, echo out our seniors instructions, answer, talk loudly, confidently and clearly to any senior even if we didn't have a good answer. Be bold, dare to try. I hope to see all of you stand tall, proudly always. Answer confidently and loudly, greet your seniors loudly, the very first moment you see them. This are just a few of the list of actions that a SJAB member should have. Never give in easily to tiredness. We alway deal with tiredness by "making ourselves go crazy". How to do that? Its simple, cheer, shout, scream, challenge yourself to do even more; these are just some of the techniques we applied last time to push ourselves on when we were tired. Soon we went "kee siao" and we forget that we are tired. That is when you will see a true uniform group spirit. One year have passed so quickly, sec 1s are no longer sec 1s anymore, you all are becoming seniors where people look up to. It is time for you all to really show your substance. Not be unsure of yourselves. Just do whatever you know, don't hold back, don't hesitate. Wrong? Learn from it. better than if you didn't try. Sec 2s and 3s, will become sec 3s and 4s soon. We expect alot from you all. Hope you all won't let anyone down. If you have not put in 100% in all that you do, even simple things such as attending all activities, pls do so. If everyone puts in 100% always, in no time, we can top all other CCAs. It is just whether we are willing to put in 100% and sustain that effort. Rest well, since camp was just over. But get back on your feet quickly soon. Make use of your free time to improve yourself. I am not saying you will have to give up all your personal time. Its just that you have to prioritise and manage your own time. Revise your first aid, go run, do physical training if you need it. HI EVERYONE! During the first 2 weeks of the NOVEMBER HOLIDAYS, there will most probably be a 2D KL and Malacca tour for all SJAB people (provided that if the response is GOOD). The programme! DAY 1 -Visit to the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (jungle trails, waterfalls) - Board a small boat for FIREFLIES watch Day 2 - SHOPPING! - Malacca! These are only the highlights. We're only testing the response for now so the trip is not confirmed yet. Those interested please tell your squad commanders.

Zone 7 Sec 1 Inauguration Ceremony

Today, we had our zone inauguration ceremony and without you guys, the ceremony wouldn't have been a special one. Well done to all the sec 2s and the sec 3s involved in the Mass Display segment, which really hyped up the atmosphere and became the climax of the inauguration. Good effort in the training despite we only having two proper sessions of the rehearsals for today's display. Continue to work hard as there is still room for improvement as always. Keep the morale up and never give up in yourself. Hey people, I know there's being quite alot of controversy about this Sat's promo parade. I'm writing here juz to clear things up... There will be a promo parade this sat.. confirmed. Yes, we are aware that there's NDP rehearsal in afternoon and u guys are to assemble around 12 noon at School, so we are pushing the promo to start early, thats why u guys are to fall in at 0800 hrs on sat in full uniform. We are aware that its gonna be quite tiring for sec 1s and 2s who will be involved in both promo and NDP. However, we are doing it cos we want the promo to be before ACPC, which is on 29 Jun 2006, juz one week later... The remaining days of the week juz before ACPC is also packed with NDP and other stuff, so its not possible to hold promo then too. Sometimes, in a uniformed group, things will not always flow smoothly, but thats why we are a uniformed grp. Our uniqueness comes in the way we handle such obstacles. We do not fall in the face of them, in fact we grow stronger, we overcome the obstacle... thats what we do. We all sympathise with the sec 1s and 2s about this coming sat being a long one... but we believe that u guys will make it. We know that u all will not let urselves down, and give in to tiredness, not at least wifout a fight... This is the uniformed group spirit, fighting spirit, which will bring u all thru tough times... the important thing here is that u do not face challenges alone, we will fight with u, at ur side, together, as one. hey ppl! the 5D4N camp (or 4D3N for sec1s & 2s) has finally came to an end. the sec1s and 2s did a great job. especially those who were the group i/c or camp i/c. nevertheless, there's still room for improvement. do be more enthusiastic though. =) for the sec3s, both the HQ trainers and combat trainers did a great job. but some group commanders still blur lah. if u don't know anything, ask the COS. it's better than being scolded for doing the wrong thing isn't it? ok. now that everyone's back at home. do rest well ok. esp the senior trainers. i believe most of us slept not more than 2 hours every day throughout the camp. but yeah. we still managed to do our duties. =D ~ssgt jane =D

2) You are to report to your respective group commanders 15 min before the reporting time. 3) Those who still do not know your group yet, please inform me ASAP.

4) Trainees who need to leave the camp for any reasons (except for hike) are to get an off pass from me before leaving the camp premises. Trainers: 1) All junior trainers please inform Chui Han if you will be booking in late for advanced party. 2) Any trainer who needs to leave the camp premises for any reasons during camp (except for hike) are to inform me one day in advance. Logistics members who needs to leave camp to purchase things are to get off pass from me before leaving the camp premises.

3) Group commanders please inform me whether all the trainees in your group are coming for camp by Friday, 9th June 2006. Please also inform me if you are unable to contact any of your trainees,latest by 1800H this Friday (9/6).

Alright pple, I think u all shd stop here or take these stuff outside of the blog... its best settled within ur squad itself. I am abit happy though now that u all are starting to really express what u all felt inside... But anyhow perhaps to clear up a little... why u guys were most probably left out of stuff is becoz back when u all first decided to stop coming, ur friends did continue to update u all abt stuff and try to get u all back... after a while, I guess they figured that it didn't work and it was getting tiring to keep updating and persuading u all to come back... so they stopped and now that u all are back, they don't know whether u all are realli serious abt it... so far, I have noticed that only Ruth is consistently coming back... the rest... seems unsure still. So ur friends would be thinking if they should or not inform u all. True, they are at fault by not informing u all of things... but u guys are suffering from symptoms of ur own fault in the 1st place. So, now that things are more or less aired out... can we start afresh? Guys, pls inform everyone abt all info and keep everyone updated. but for those who didn't come last time... I have made this clear b4 already... and I will repeat for the last time, come for every single activity or u will be forever be excluded (and i'll see to it personally that we remove ur names from the nominal roll). to yongyue[maybe everyone in the sec3 squad] : give u all some time? haven't i mixed in pretty well before? when i didn't make the huge mistake of not coming for parades? when i decided to return to the squad all i can sense around me is just loneliness. what does this mean? just becos some of us were not coming to parades regularly means we have to be left out? the case is not only with me. its with some others too. and i do not receive proper notices of parades. i have to ask around. where did the relay system go? down the drain? if everything is in such a way, i actually don't see much point in coming. its like i come just for the sake of attendance, thats it. i don't feel the achievement i used to feel after parades. in fact i feel very alone. during parades when we do footdrills, i see our seniors trying to make us improve. i was trying my best but when i looked around i saw everyone slacking. no ninety degrees. no locked elbows. how do u think it would feel? and no one tried teaching me the slow march when i had no idea what is it. only tanmin corrected me a bit. i can ensure you, only one or two people have been talking to me properly during parades. others seem to have forgotten about me. when i trying to communicate all i get are cold answers. Hey... the debriefs are long cause there are always a long list of things to address. It will be short if there's nothing to talk about. We don't do debriefs for nothing... and all I wanted u all to be... has already been briefed to you all. No. 1: to be frank always. That is not achieved however as I can see it. Thats also why its always so long. All of u still got something deeply felt that u do not let out. Maybe except for Ruth. And u guys take awfully long to tell me what u guys have to say about ur own squads, ur seniors etc. And like I said... speak like an NCO... if u really have to leave, u have to have the guts to stand up and ask for permission to go. Its just that easy and simple... but u guys still cannot do it. Either its because u know that u can actually still squeeze the time out or u dun have the guts to ask. If u are not asking cos u can still squeeze the time out from whatever that u have to attend to, then u are a person who knows how to manage time... hopefully. If u are not asking cause u have no guts to, u're not an NCO, and u are still faraway from being one. I also hope to cut the debrief short... alternatively i can hold it on another day, but if i hold the debrief on the next parade, the effect will be less. Why? Its simple, cos ur memory and feelings of how u felt on that day of training would already have faded. To Ruth: Strive on... hope u don't get too upset. U are the first few who actually become more frank and open. That's a good sign. Pick up ur pace and work hard. We do recognise people who are serious about trying hard. And the rest of u too... if u cannot be frank completely to each other, u guys will never be as close as u all so much desire to be always. Most of u can tell me that u all wish to be a closer squad. And I presented u the solution. Now its time for u all to take action. If u all choose to not believe me... its alright. Perhaps u forgot that I was in the brigade ever since 1997... thats almost 10 years already... and that I have seen alot of batches of cadets come and go. Oh and by the way, besides being frank, u guys do have to solve ur issues immediately too... or u guys will just end up hating each other; and never get closer too. So a rough sequence of events that would happen when u guys are frank is: U see something u feel that ur friend has not done right, u tell that person. That person would explain his/her reasons (if any) to you. And u guys discuss and come to a solution that both agree and whoever needs to change, change him/herself. A very simple process but very difficult to execute. Well, we, as seniors, can do whatever we can to help u all but we can only show u the way. U have to walk it URSELF! About the camp, yeah it will be fun if everyone puts in effort to keep the standards up. We are strict but we are fair. If the performance is good, we do not need to raise our voices or make things difficult. So... fun or not... is actually up to u all. Weiye

hope our first camp as trainers will be fun... why is our debrief always so long? my dad always have to wait for 1 hour and there will always be a traffic jam because of peak hour. it had happened for 4 weeks alrdy. each time my family must wait very very long. then the jam would cause the time to reach home to be like 4 times as long. my dad pretty upset abt this. so maybe next time can try to shorten the debrief. -tanmin- *(>-<)*

ok.... u guys are new to this. Advance party mean: a group of trainers or people to go to a campsite before the actual camp itself to set up the camp... trainees will only report on 13 Jun... one day later. This is always a good practice cos camps have a lot of things to prepare beforehand. Certain things also need to be briefed down and new procedures learnt before the camp itself since the standard practised at the camp may be different from what is in the corps. Nothing we plan is a tekan session... It only becomes one when people become lazy or do not follow instructions... meaning: u guys "asked" for it. We are reasonable people and yes, u will find sometimes certain things hard to achieve, but thats where training comes in. If u go to a camp, and get by it easily, it means u are not testing ur limits, learning new stuff... u learn best through hardship. This is tested and proven. As for knowing of ur friends... u guys are young... know little about the importance of knowing people around u.... these friends u make are not juz friends in SJAB, next time, u never know when u run into them again and maybe they can help u in something... If u want to always push away making new friends.... u will end up a lonely person, with little socialising skills and let me tell u.... socialising is a very important skill in life... especially when u desire to be a good leader, u have to be able to break the ice... have to be able to talk to new people comfortably, have to be able to build rapport. So start here... and u won't regret it. Weiye
